Condition Labels

What our condition grades really mean

Every costume in our shop is carefully inspected by Alyson and Sophie before it's listed. We describe each piece honestly so you know exactly what you're getting — no surprises when it arrives.

New With Tags

Brand new, never worn, tags still attached

This costume has never been worn or performed in. Original tags are still attached. It's as good as buying new — just at a fraction of the price. A rare find!

Excellent

Worn very minimally — looks and feels like new

May have been worn for one or two performances or a recital. No visible wear, no damage, no alterations. Rhinestones and embellishments are fully intact. You'd never know it wasn't new.

Performance Ready

Gently used with minor signs of wear — stage ready

This costume has been worn for a competition season or recital. It's been well cared for and is absolutely ready to perform again. There may be very minor signs of wear that are only visible on close inspection — we'll always note any specifics in the product listing.

Minor things to expect may include: very slight fading, a small number of missing rhinestones, or light wear at the hem. Nothing that affects how it looks on stage.

Good

Visible wear — great value for rehearsals or casual use

This costume shows more noticeable signs of wear from regular use. It's still a beautiful piece and great value — ideal for rehearsals, school performances, or bringing a specific character to life in a show where perfection isn't the priority. With small alterations or a little TLC, many Good condition pieces can be upgraded beautifully.

We'll always describe the specific wear in the product listing so there are no surprises. Photos will show any notable areas clearly.

Every costume is inspected by Alyson and Sophie before it's listed. We only list pieces we'd be happy to put our own dancer in.

Sizing Guide

Finding your perfect fit

Dance costume sizing can vary a lot between brands and styles — so we always recommend measuring first rather than going by age or standard clothing size. Here's how to get it right.

How to take your measurements

Chest / Bust

Measure around the fullest part of the chest, keeping the tape parallel to the floor. For children, measure with arms relaxed at their sides.

Waist

Measure around the natural waist — the narrowest part of the torso, usually just above the belly button. Keep the tape snug but not tight.

Hips

Measure around the fullest part of the hips and seat, usually about 7–9 inches below the natural waist. Keep feet together when measuring.

A note on dance costume sizing 🩰

Dance costumes are designed to fit close to the body and allow freedom of movement — they often run smaller than everyday clothing. If your measurements fall between two sizes, we generally recommend sizing up.

Every listing includes the size label as provided by the consignor. If you're unsure about fit on a specific piece, just email us — we're happy to take additional measurements from the garment itself.
